Welcome To Theatre in the Park

Theatre in the Park is Illinois’ premiere outdoor theatre nestled within the New Salem historic site where young Abraham Lincoln lived during the early 1800’s. The stadium-style 500-seat theatre provides an unobstructed view of the unique, multi-level stage. A general concession stand is open prior to each night’s performance and during intermission so patrons can partake of delicious popcorn, candy and cool beverages.

Show Times

All presentations at Theatre in the Park begin at 8:00 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheatre located behind the Visitor's Center at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site. Before each performance, a free pre-show is featured at 7:00 p.m. - 7:40 p.m. in the indoor theatre at the Visitor's Center. The free pre-show features the first twenty minutes of family entertainment from area artists. It could be singing, dancing, musical instruments, or local historians sharing stories of the past. The second half of the pre-show is the director or members of the cast discussing their experiences with the show. Please join us for an evening of well-rounded entertainment!
