10:00 Audition for The Sangamon
The Sangamon was created from a book by Petersburg’s famous poet, Edgar Lee Masters. Adapted and directed by Jim Yale, the play will be a celebration of our area, community and its historic people, presented by an ensemble cast.

Show Description: The Sangamon will be performed in two acts by with 4-6 actors. It will be presented in a style reminiscent of Spoon River Anthology, with the actors speaking directly to the audience. With the exception of the Narrator (Edgar Lee Masters), the other actors will portray multiple individuals.
The Sangamon is an original adaptation of Masters book, which was part of the popular Rivers of America series in the 1940's. The script has been created by selecting sections of the book verbatim with only a few edits for clarity and flow. The script will also feature performances of some poems from Spoon River Anthology. The scenes and stories flow much like the river, with an introduction to the Sangamon River area and history, then moving to the area's villages and villagers, then moving to more specific stories of Menard County historic figures including William Herndon, John McNamar, Anne Rutledge, the…
